Questions people ask first
- Which refrigerants does it cover?
- Five: R-410A, R-32, R-454B, R-22 and R-134a.
- Why does superheat use the dew point and subcooling the bubble point?
- Superheat is measured on the suction line, where the refrigerant has just finished boiling, so it is read against the dew point: suction line temperature minus dew point. Subcooling is measured on the liquid line, where it has just finished condensing, so it is read against the bubble point: bubble point minus liquid line temperature. Glidechart picks the curve from the side you type on, so there is no switch to set.
- What is glide?
- On a blend such as R-410A or R-454B, the dew point and the bubble point at one pressure differ. That difference is the glide. Glidechart shows it under the saturation temperature on a blend, for example “Glide at 107.5 psig: 2.7 °F” on R-454B. On a single compound (R-32, R-22, R-134a) the two points are the same, so there is no glide line.
- Where do the numbers come from?
- Every value comes from CoolProp, the open-source thermophysical property library (Bell, Wronski, Quoilin and Lemort, 2014): the app carries a table CoolProp computed every 0.1 °F and reads it on your phone. Each result names it in the working under it. R-454B is modelled as 68.9% R-32 and 31.1% R-1234yf by mass. About in the app shows the version Glidechart uses.
- Can I look up a pressure from a temperature?
- Yes. Type a temperature in the Dew point or Bubble point field and the pressure appears. On the PT chart, switch between By °F and By psig.
- Why does it say “No saturation point”?
- The pressure you typed has no saturation point for that refrigerant, which is usually a mistyped digit. Check the digits.
- What does a negative psig mean?
- Gauge pressure is measured from one standard atmosphere, 14.696 psia. A negative psig is below atmospheric, a vacuum on the gauge.
- Can I use °C, kPa or bar, or correct for altitude?
- Not in this version. Glidechart works in °F and psig, with gauge pressure from one standard atmosphere.
- Does it tell me whether the charge is right?
- No. Glidechart gives readings. It does not judge a charge. Compare the superheat and subcooling with the equipment manufacturer’s charging chart. Reference tool only — verify against manufacturer specs and site conditions before charging.
- Does it need a signal or an account?
- Neither. It works in airplane mode, and there is no account or sign-in.
- I cleared my readings by mistake.
- Tap Undo, which stays on screen until your next edit.
- How do I copy a reading?
- Long-press a result and choose Copy. The copy names the refrigerant, the curve and the source.
- Does it work with large text and screen readers?
- Yes: Dynamic Type and VoiceOver on iPhone and iPad, font size and TalkBack on Android, and dark mode on both.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. This version of Glidechart has no price, no in-app purchase, no subscription and no ads.
