What Clearwell Does Not Collect
- No personal information: We don't ask for your name, email, phone number, or any identifying details.
- No accounts: You don't create an account or log in. No username, no password.
- No quiz answers: We never see what questions you answer or how you answer them.
- No device identifiers: We don't collect your device ID, IP address, or any unique identifier that could track you across apps.
- No tracking: No third-party analytics, no IDFA, no cross-app tracking.
- No location data: Clearwell never requests or uses your location.
What Stays On Your Device
The only data Clearwell stores is:
- Quiz score history – Your scores from each quiz you take, stored locally on your device
- Missed and mastered questions – Which questions you got wrong last time and which you have got right more than once, stored locally, so Past-Errors Review and All Questions work
- Streak state – How many days in a row you've taken a quiz, stored locally
Clearwell never transmits this data. It has no servers, no sync and no copy of your progress, and it shares nothing with anyone. If your iPhone or iPad backs up to iCloud or to a computer, iOS includes this data in that backup, as it does for every app's data. The backup goes to your own Apple Account or computer, and Clearwell cannot read it. On Android, Clearwell opts out of Android's backup and device-to-device transfer, so its data stays on that one device.
How Purchase Information Is Handled
When you buy Clearwell:
- Apple or Google handles your payment – On iPhone and iPad, your card, Apple Account and payment details are handled by Apple (StoreKit). On Android, they are handled by Google Play (Google Play Billing). Clearwell never sees your payment information.
- The purchase is checked on your device – StoreKit or Google Play tells the app on your device that the purchase is valid. Nothing about it is sent to us; we have no server.
- No recurring charges – Clearwell is sold as a non-renewing in-app purchase. You pay once. Your payment method is never charged again.
App Analytics
Clearwell has no analytics. It writes short diagnostic lines (that a quiz started, that a purchase completed) to your device's own system log, which never leaves the device unless you choose to share diagnostics with Apple or Google in your device's settings. Clearwell itself sends nothing anywhere.
Children's Privacy
Clearwell is designed for professional adults (water treatment operators) and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by not intentionally collecting data from children under 13. If a child's parent or guardian becomes aware that a child has provided Clearwell with personal information, please contact us immediately.
California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, and shared. Since Clearwell collects no personal data, there is nothing to disclose, delete, or opt out of. You have nothing to request.
Data Deletion
Since Clearwell stores no account data, no personal information, and no data linked to your identity, there is no account to delete and no personal data we hold to delete. All data Clearwell knows about is stored on your device only and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Offline Operation
Clearwell works entirely offline. You can study on an airplane, in a basement, or anywhere with zero network connectivity. Clearwell itself makes no network calls. The in-app purchase is handled by Apple or Google Play, and a "Read it at the source" link opens the publisher's page in your browser.
Third-Party Services
Clearwell does not use any third-party SDKs or services that collect data. No Firebase, no Mixpanel, no advertising networks. On Android the only Google libraries are Play Billing (the purchase), Play's in-app review prompt and Play's age signal; Clearwell sends them none of your quiz data, and the Android app has no internet permission of its own. Your quiz data never touches a third-party server.
Security
Your device's OS provides security for locally stored data. iOS and Android encrypt app data at rest. Clearwell does not implement custom encryption because it has no reason to: we don't store sensitive data, and the OS provides encryption by default.
Privacy Policy Changes
If Clearwell's privacy practices change, we will update this page and its date before the change ships in an app update.
