We Collect Zero Data
Oathcard is built to protect your privacy by design. The app collects, transmits, stores, and shares zero personal data.
What Happens When You Use The App
No Internet Connection Required: Oathcard works completely offline. The app makes no network calls of its own. The only network use comes from Apple's or Google's own store software: it checks whether you own the unlock when the app opens, and handles a purchase or a restore. On Android, the app leaves out the diagnostics uploader Google's billing library would otherwise bring with it, so nothing beyond the purchase check is sent. No data about you leaves your device.
No Accounts: You don't create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use the app.
No Tracking: The app contains no analytics, advertising networks, or crash-reporting service. If it crashes, a short report is written to a file on your device only and is never sent anywhere.
No Server Storage: We have no servers that store or process your app usage, quiz results, or any other data about you.
What Data Is In The App
Oathcard includes two static datasets bundled directly in the app:
- 2025 USCIS Civics Bank: The official 128-question civics interview bank, transcribed from the USCIS M-1778 document. This is public government content.
- State Officials Lookup: The governor and capital of each of the 50 states and the 5 U.S. territories, and each state's two U.S. senators. D.C. and the territories have no senators, and D.C. has no governor or capital, so for them the app gives USCIS's own answer. Sourced from official government pages: senate.gov for senators, usa.gov for the governors and capitals of the 50 states and Puerto Rico, and the Interior Department's Office of Insular Affairs (doi.gov/oia) for the other territories.
Neither dataset contains any personal information about you or any other individual user.
Payment and App Store
Oathcard is free to download; a one-time $5.99 purchase unlocks the full question bank. Payment is processed through Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
- Apple App Store: Apple handles all payment processing and receipt management. The app checks the purchase with Apple on your device; nothing about it, and no payment details, is sent to us.
- Google Play: Google handles all payment processing. The app checks the purchase with Google Play on your device; nothing about it, and no payment details, is sent to us.
We do not store or process your payment information. That data is handled exclusively by Apple and Google according to their own privacy policies.
Device Permissions
Oathcard requests zero device permissions. The app does not ask for:
- Microphone or audio access
- Camera access
- Location data
- Contacts or calendar access
- Photo library access
- Health or fitness data
Children's Privacy
Oathcard does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children. Because we collect zero data from all users, there is no special handling of children's information.
Third-Party Services
Oathcard uses zero third-party services, analytics platforms, or external libraries that collect data. Besides Apple's and Google's own platform and store libraries (StoreKit, Google Play Billing, In-App Review, Age Signals), the app uses only open-source UI and data libraries that collect nothing.
Your Quiz Results and Study History
The app stores a few small settings on your device: the state you chose, whether you unlocked the full bank, how many times the app has been opened and which version last asked for a rating (so the rating prompt never repeats), and a marker that the age question below was asked. Quiz results are kept only while the quiz is open. On first launch the app asks Apple's Declared Age Range or Google Play's Age Signals for an age range, as Texas law requires app makers to; the answer is used only on your device and is never saved or sent anywhere. Nothing in the app is unsuitable for any age, so the answer changes nothing you see. They are never sent to us, to Apple, to Google, or to any other server. This data is completely yours and is accessible to you only.
Data Deletion
All of your app data (the settings above and any crash report; a purchase can be restored from the store) is deleted when you uninstall the app. No data about you remains on our servers because we have no servers and collect no data.
How We Protect Your Offline Data
Since Oathcard runs offline with zero external communication:
- Your device's standard encryption (iOS File Protection, Android encryption) protects that data
- Your data is only as secure as your device's physical security
- We have no ability to access, sell, or share your quiz results
